Five Texas Cows at Sunset is a celebration of sunset colors as the last orange rays of the setting sun strike the trees creating statement in orange and yellow with dark blue ultramarine shadows as the cows graze lazily enjoying the late afternoon light. Sunset in rural Texas!

The cows running anxiously after their calves as the sun sets casting deep shadows in the tree line beyond, while the large tree captures the oranges and yellows of the setting sun which also illuminates the fresh spring grass with a rich yellow green.

I was driving on a country road between Dallas and Austin, near College Station when I came across this scene.

I could not resist enjoying the special moment.

Texas Paintbrush Spring Flowers (castilleja indivisa) blooms in March, April and May and the nectar is sought after by hummingbirds.  I love the way the orange to red flowers in this flower-saturated meadow contrasts with the blue shadows in the line of oak trees behind.  Truly a spectacular display of Texas at its best!

This is a romantic beach scene with a couple walking at sunset followed by their two dogs.  The last rays of light just glint on the outlines and play with the colors and reflections in the water.  The Fauves style of painting is a joyful expression with full color and can border on the abstract.

Surf's Up! is a surfer preparing to go out for the last wave of the day, at sunset, accompanied by his son and the family's black labrador.  The late light changes the color of the water surface and reflections while distant waves display the sunset colors.

Summer Beach Play is a joyful oil painting of children and play on Carmel Beach California with the central figure being the young girl on whose shoulder her mother has a protective hand.  The beauty in the work is that the scene and figures have been simplified and the colors separated and enhanced, pretty much in the fauves style, to add interest and vibrancy to the work.
