DAILY PAINTING

I have heard it said there is nothing quite like the quality of light you find under the African sun – as an ex- South African, I did subscribe to this view - my fondness for the fondness was for the expansive landscapes and especially those late afternoon glowing colors – yellows, reds and oranges with contrasting shadows in blues and purples, not to mention the astounding sunset colors!

California, I have come to realize, has a wonderful landscape, with a drama all of it's own!

Travelling back from a day’s water skiing with friends, I was stunned at the intense sunset yellows, oranges, blues and purples I love so much striking the Californian hills - I do use a little “poetic license” – as one renowned painter said: “Do you see any yellow, then paint it yellow. Do you see any blue, well paint it blue!

I like to intensify the colors to make a feature of the "main attraction" while still keeping the tonal balance.

This style of painting resembles Fauvism, which comes from “les Fauves” (French for “the wild beasts”) – a group of early 20th Century modern artists, whose work emphasized painterly qualities, and strong color.

I hope you also enjoy the lively, modern and joyful style and use of bold colors, simplified drawing and expressive brush work!
Your comments and support would be greatly appreciated.

Giclees are high quality hand - embellished canvas prints done so as to look similar to the original, while giving you the option to choose your preferred size.  These cost much less than the original painting!
